Jade Chess Set

A stunning chess set carved from authentic, untreated Jade. The pieces are hand carved from either medium green Canadian Jade or dark green Australian Jade. The board is constructed from alternating stone tiles, green Canadian Jade and pink Canadian rhodonite - set in a wooden case. The case has a Jade knob on one side and opens for storing the pieces when not in use.

The board measures 49cm x 49cm.

The oldest Jade artifacts were all practical household items, not jewellery. Nephrite Jade is the toughest naturally occurring gemstone, which makes it difficult to carve but incredibly durable once carved. Like all of our pieces, this Jade has not been dyed or colour-treated.

Australian Jade is chemically the same stone as our Canadian Jade, but with a higher iron content making it appear much darker. Rhodonite is a softer stone that is unrelated to Jade. Rhodonite is found in various places around the world - these pieces however are mined in either BC or the Yukon.

The board can be purchased separately or together with the full set of chess pieces. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
